Jaíne Mackievicz is a Brazilian food writer and the winner of Food Network’s The Julia Child Challenge. Jaíne first saw Julia Child on TV making Spaghetti Marco Polo with Mr. Rogers on TV when she was still a little girl in the Amazon. She then fell in love with Julia’s joie de vivre and decided to follow in her icon’s footsteps. After graduating from law school in 2015, she left her career behind to embark on a voyage to the world of food she has always wholeheartedly loved. She chose Massachusetts, the home of her culinary goddess Julia, to initiate her journey. There, she learned how to speak English through cookbooks and fell in love with developing recipes and writing about them. Jaíne’s story was showcased in the special Julia Child’s issue of Cherry Bombe Magazine, which eventually led her to participate in the Julia Child Challenge. Jaíne is now packing some cookbooks to bring to Paris, where she will receive the prize of spending three months studying at Le Cordon Bleu Paris, just like her hero Julia did.
Jaíne now lives in Oceanside, CA with her husband Douglas and a prodigious collection of cookbooks. Follow her on Instagram @mackievicz where she cooks with a Brazilian accent.
